The provincial government said the engagement represents another step towards developing partnerships with the private sector to accelerate digital transformation, improve urban mobility and strengthen the promotion of Kinshasa’s historical and tourism assets.

The provincial government of Kinshasa has opened discussions with Africell RDC  on potential collaboration to support the modernisation of urban services, digitalisation, mobility and tourism in the Democratic Republic of Congo’s capital.

The discussions took place during a working meeting between Jésus-Noël Sheke, Provincial Minister for Planning, Budget, Public Service, Employment, Tourism, Transport and Urban Mobility, and Kory Webster, Managing Director of Africell RDC, alongside a delegation from the telecom operator.

The meeting established a framework for exploring cooperation between Kinshasa and Africell RDC. The provincial government presented several projects where the operator could potentially serve as a strategic partner, including the digitalisation of the city’s administration and financial systems.

Urban mobility was another focus, with the government proposing the development and modernisation of parking facilities dedicated to motorcycles and taxis. The initiative forms part of wider efforts to improve the organisation of transport services across Kinshasa.

The two sides also discussed tourism-related projects, including the Kin City Guide, which is being developed in both physical and digital formats to promote destinations across the capital. The province also highlighted a memorial tourism programme that would place commemorative plaques at historical sites across Kinshasa.

Africell’s Afri-Radio was also identified as an important communication channel for raising public awareness about reforms being implemented by the provincial administration. The platform could support efforts to improve communication and engagement with residents.

The provincial government said the engagement represents another step towards developing partnerships with the private sector to accelerate digital transformation, improve urban mobility and strengthen the promotion of Kinshasa’s historical and tourism assets.
