The initiative aims to create more opportunities for residents to develop digital skills, access technology-enabled services and participate in Ghana’s digital transformation agenda.

The Minister for Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations,  Samuel Nartey George, has pledged 30 laptops to the Nkwantakese Community Information Centre (CIC) in Ghana’s Afigya Kwabre North District to strengthen digital skills training and expand access to digital services.

The pledge was made during a courtesy visit to the Chief of Nkwantakese, Nana Boakye Yaw Ababio II, as part of the minister’s two-day tour of the Ashanti Region. The minister was accompanied by the District Chief Executive, Emmanuel Justin Agumah.

The initiative aims to create more opportunities for residents to develop digital skills, access technology-enabled services and participate in Ghana’s digital transformation agenda. Nana Boakye Yaw Ababio II welcomed the delegation and expressed support for the project, while calling for increased public education and awareness to encourage residents of Nkwantakese and neighbouring communities to make full use of the centre.

During the visit, Samuel Nartey George also outlined the ministry’s ongoing review and reorganisation of digital access initiatives to improve service delivery and expand access to technology across communities.

He further disclosed that efforts were underway through the Ghana Digital Acceleration Project (GDAP) to extend high-speed internet connectivity to Nkwantakese, complementing the laptop pledge by strengthening the infrastructure needed to support digital inclusion.

The ministry reaffirmed its commitment to expanding digital opportunities and ensuring that communities across Ghana benefit from the government’s digitalisation initiatives.
