Q-KON and SISTEC Launch OneWeb Satellite Network PoP in Angola
Combined with Eutelsat OneWeb’s local satellite gateway in Angola, the expansion is designed to meet data sovereignty, security and low-latency requirements for the country’s financial sector, government institutions, defence organisations and enterprises.
Q-KON, an African satellite engineering company, has partnered with Angolan IT and telecommunications provider SISTEC – Sistemas, Tecnologias e Indústria S.A. to launch a local Point-of-Presence (PoP) in Luanda for the Twoobii OneWeb Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellite network service.
The new infrastructure, hosted at SISTEC’s facilities in Luanda, enables local data breakout and interconnectivity. Combined with Eutelsat OneWeb’s local satellite gateway in Angola, the expansion is designed to meet data sovereignty, security and low-latency requirements for the country’s financial sector, government institutions, defence organisations and enterprises.
The local breakout capability allows data traffic to terminate within Angola rather than being routed internationally. This is intended to help financial institutions, banking organisations and operators of critical national infrastructure meet local-content requirements, data sovereignty standards and regulatory compliance obligations.
The expanded service also integrates the Twoobii OneWeb LEO network into SISTEC’s core network, providing local Angolan IP address allocation, enhanced security through local data termination, real-time service monitoring and support, and service-level agreement management. The network architecture was developed with third-level engineering support from Eutelsat.
“This expansion is a classic example of how Q-KON’s engineering teams leverage the global technological advantages of Low Earth Orbit constellations to architect truly Africa-centric solutions. By establishing a local Point-of-Presence in Luanda alongside our trusted partners at SISTEC, we are continuously expanding our Twoobii OneWeb LEO portfolio to deliver highly specific, value-adding capabilities tailored to the complex needs of the Angolan market.”
– Dawie de Wet, Group CEO, Q-KON
Carlos De Melo, CEO of SISTEC, said the new infrastructure would enable the company to provide enhanced connectivity services to enterprise and financial-sector clients.
“Hosting this extended Smart Satellite infrastructure within our Luanda facilities allows us to deliver unprecedented value to our enterprise and financial sector clients. By integrating Twoobii-OneWeb’s low-latency LEO network directly into the SISTEC core network – complete with local IP numbers and native monitoring – we are providing Angolan institutions with the secure, high-performance, and compliant connectivity required to power the nation’s economic future.”
– Carlos De Melo, CEO, SISTEC
Philippe Baudier, Vice President for Connectivity, Africa at Eutelsat, said the partnership would help extend reliable satellite connectivity to businesses and public institutions, including those in areas with limited terrestrial network coverage.
“Our focus in Angola is on bringing reliable, high-performance OneWeb LEO connectivity to businesses and public institutions, including in areas where terrestrial networks are limited. Working with Q-KON and SISTEC, we combine the reach of our LEO constellation with local infrastructure and expertise to support customers’ needs for resilient connectivity and local data routing. These partnerships are central to how we deliver services that meet the needs of the Angolan market.”
– Philippe Baudrier, Vice President for Connectivity, Africa, Eutelsat
