The platform offers courses across 13 vocational disciplines, including electrical installation, plumbing, welding, food production, motorcycle maintenance and mobile phone repair.

Airtel Africa Foundation,  in partnership with Tanzania’s Vocational Education and Training Authority (VETA),  is expanding access to vocational education through VSOMO, a digital learning platform that enables learners to complete theoretical lessons online before attending training centres for practical instruction.

The platform offers courses across 13 vocational disciplines, including electrical installation, plumbing, welding, food production, motorcycle maintenance and mobile phone repair. By allowing learners to study theory remotely, VSOMO aims to reduce the time and transport costs associated with accessing vocational training.

VSOMO has recorded more than 59,000 downloads, 27,194 registered users, 9,539 enrolled learners and 6,723 graduates. Learners are also estimated to have saved TZS 1.2 billion through reduced transportation costs, subsidised learning content and zero-rated internet access.

Supported by the Airtel Africa Foundation, the initiative aims to make vocational learning more accessible to young people while equipping them with practical skills that can support employment, entrepreneurship and sustainable livelihoods.
