The initiative aims to connect 1,000 schools across the country to digital infrastructure, a major step toward bridging the digital divide in education.

Kenya’s ICT Authority , led by Director of Programmes and Standards Bwaley Thomas, has announced a new partnership with UNICEF  to launch the Last Mile Connectivity Project. The initiative aims to connect 1,000 schools across the country to digital infrastructure, a major step toward bridging the digital divide in education.

The project will begin its rollout in Kajiado County, with an initial phase targeting 60 schools. The briefing was attended by Charles Otine, Innovation Manager, and Moses Rono from UNICEF, who outlined plans to advance the project.

Following the meeting, the team met with Acting CEO of the ICT Authority, Zilpher Owiti, who reaffirmed the institution’s support for the project’s goals. The partnership underscores a shared commitment to enhancing access to ICT in schools and ensuring that more students have the resources needed to thrive in the digital age.
