Key announcements at the summit included the launch of Phase 2 of the High-Performance Computing Centre by President Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa, the forthcoming National AI Strategy set for October 2025, and the continuation of the 1.5 Million Coders Program.

Zimbabwe’s Minister of ICT, Postal and Courier Services, Hon. Tatenda Mavetera, has declared that Africa’s moment in artificial intelligence has arrived, describing AI as “like the mighty Zambezi River… cutting through barriers and reshaping the land forever.”

Speaking at the opening of the AIAfrica2025 Summit, Minister Mavetera outlined Zimbabwe’s commitment to building domestic capacity, ensuring the continent does not become digitally dependent. She emphasized AI’s potential to accelerate climate-resilient farming, healthcare, and education, while underscoring the need for Africa to present a united voice on the global AI stage.
