Iraq Signs Landmark Deal to Launch First Government Data Centers for Commercial Use
The initiative represents a significant move towards strengthening Iraq’s digital sovereignty while ensuring high levels of data security and credibility.

Under the patronage of the Minister of Communications, Dr. Hayam El-Yassery, Iraq has taken a major step in its digital infrastructure development with the signing of a contract to establish the country’s first government data centers for commercial purposes.
The agreement was signed between the General Communications and Information Company and Nokia International Company in Baghdad. The new data centers are designed to serve government bodies, private institutions, and the broader private sector.
Minister El-Yassery highlighted that the project will be implemented at Al-Tansar and Al-Rashid (Sinak) agencies. For the first time, Iraqi citizens’ and companies’ data will be stored and protected domestically, adhering to international standards and employing advanced security and reliability measures.
