Airtel Madagascar Officializes VoLTE Launch, Boosting Digital Transformation

September 29, 2025
2 min read

The institutional initiative confirms the availability of VoLTE (Voice over LTE) on the Malagasy market and underscores Airtel’s commitment to collaborating closely with authorities to support sector modernization.

Continuing its efforts to modernize telecommunications in Madagascar, Airtel Madagascar  organized a press conference on Wednesday, September 23, at the Digital Center by MNDPT in Antananarivo. The event was attended by the Minister of Digital Development, Digital Transformation, Posts, and Telecommunications.

The institutional initiative confirms the availability of VoLTE (Voice over LTE) on the Malagasy market and underscores Airtel’s commitment to collaborating closely with authorities to support sector modernization.

“This officialization with national authorities aligns with our development and modernization strategy. It illustrates our commitment to actively contribute to the digital transformation of Madagascar while providing our customers with a next-generation mobile experience.”

Anne Catherine Tchokonte, General Director, Airtel Madagascar

VoLTE enhances voice call experiences by leveraging the 4G network, offering high-definition (HD) sound quality. It also allows users to make calls while continuing to browse the Internet or use applications without interruptions or extra charges, using their existing plan.

“We are continuing our investments in expanding 4G coverage to strengthen our network and support sector modernization. In parallel, we are preparing to launch ‘Smart Feature Phones,’ affordable smartphones that will connect more Malagasy users and accelerate digital inclusion.”

Anne Catherine Tchokonte, General Director, Airtel Madagascar

A Shared Vision with the Malagasy State

Minister of Digital Development, Posts, and Telecommunications, Stéphanie Delmotte, praised the initiative, emphasizing its alignment with the national digital transformation strategy promoted by the President, aimed at leveraging digital technology for inclusion, sovereignty, and development.

“This launch perfectly aligns with our national and regional vision. Yesterday, we discussed data governance and e-commerce during SADC workshops in Antananarivo. Today, with VoLTE, we have concrete proof that digital transformation is already underway. The state, for its part, continues efforts through the deployment of towers, network coverage expansion, and implementation of educational and social projects, ensuring that no one is left behind.”

Stéphanie Delmotte, Minister of Digital Development, Posts, and Telecommunications, Madagascar
