redAcademy and Flash Group Launch Partnership to Fast-Track South Africa’s Tech Talent
The collaboration is designed to rapidly advance the skills of junior tech talent and strengthen Flash Group’s internal capabilities without adding pressure to its existing teams.
redAcademy has entered into a strategic partnership with Flash Group, one of South Africa’s leading fintech companies, to help address the business’s growing shortage of senior technology professionals. The collaboration is designed to rapidly advance the skills of junior tech talent and strengthen Flash Group’s internal capabilities without adding pressure to its existing teams.
Flash Group, which operates with a large technical workforce, has long faced challenges in finding experienced tech professionals. According to Melissa Stemmers, Learning & Development Manager at Flash Group, the company’s recruitment analysis highlighted a strong supply of junior candidates but a significant gap in senior-level expertise. Competing with other organisations for scarce skilled talent has further complicated the hiring landscape.
To overcome these constraints, Flash Group opted to re-engage the junior talent pool and identify ways to accelerate their readiness for critical roles. redAcademy’s Skills-Integration-as-a-Service (SIaaS) model offered a tailored solution by preparing junior developers through immersive, real-world training before they enter the workplace.
Under this model, redAcademy provides customised training aligned with Flash Group’s culture and business needs. Junior candidates gain hands-on experience by working directly on client projects, contributing value from the first day of their placement. While redAcademy handles the bulk of the training process, Flash Group participates in shaping the curriculum and providing guidance to ensure alignment with its technical and cultural expectations.
The partnership supports Flash Group’s broader mission to simplify lives and extend opportunities within the communities it serves, particularly in the informal economy. By developing talent internally, the company aims to create sustainable pathways for young professionals to enter and grow within the fintech sector.
redAcademy Managing Director Jessica Hawkey emphasized the importance of cultural fit alongside technical competence. She noted that the collaboration is currently in the Discovery Phase, with efforts underway to select candidates and adapt the training programme ahead of its official rollout in January 2026.
Both organisations share a commitment to investing in local talent and creating meaningful career opportunities. The initiative is positioned as a long-term strategy to strengthen South Africa’s tech ecosystem while meeting Flash Group’s growing demand for skilled professionals.
