Afrobarometer Appoints Four Experts to Strengthen Governance, Youth Leadership, and Tech Innovation

The new appointees bring diverse expertise in governance, elections, youth empowerment, technology, and finance, reflecting Afrobarometer’s strategic priorities for the continent.

Afrobarometer  has strengthened its governance and expertise by appointing four distinguished professionals to its board of directors, reinforcing the organisation’s commitment to rigorous research, youth leadership, and citizen-focused evidence. The new appointees bring diverse expertise in governance, elections, youth empowerment, technology, and finance, reflecting Afrobarometer’s strategic priorities for the continent.

The new board members include Bupe Lughano Kabaghe, a global governance and youth empowerment specialist with experience across Africa, the UK, and the US, and founder of the Abana Afrika Foundation; Mathias Hounkpe, a Beninese elections and governance expert with over 20 years of experience promoting democratic processes in West Africa; Rita Sraha, a chartered accountant and business consultant with extensive experience in finance and corporate governance, currently serving as acting managing director of Ghana Post Company Ltd.; and Sherif Helal, an Egyptian electrical engineer focusing on AI and technology applications for social and economic development, including the development of the Social Knowledge Engine.

Afrobarometer Board Chair Amina Oyagbola highlighted that the appointments underscore the organisation’s emphasis on youth leadership, accountable governance, and technological innovation.

The new members are expected to enhance Afrobarometer’s capacity to generate citizen-centred data that addresses the aspirations of young Africans and informs evidence-based decision-making across the continent.
