According to Juniper Research’s April 2026 report, Agentic Commerce Market 2026–2031, Mastercard ranked first globally in the payment infrastructure providers category, receiving the highest score across capacity, innovation and market penetration, and earning the title of “Established Leader”.

Mastercard  has further reinforced its visionary leadership in a new era where artificial intelligence is set to transform the way people shop, pay and interact with digital commerce. According to Juniper Research’s April 2026 report, Agentic Commerce Market 2026–2031, Mastercard ranked first globally in the payment infrastructure providers category, receiving the highest score across capacity, innovation and market penetration, and earning the title of “Established Leader”.

The report describes Agentic Commerce as the future of commerce — an ecosystem where personal AI assistants do more than recommend products. Within the limits and permissions set by users, these assistants can conduct market research, make decisions and complete payments on the user’s behalf. In this new era, which is redefining the shopping and payment experience, AI can carry out purchases within pre-approved budgets and user-defined conditions. Mastercard is already bringing its innovation capabilities in this field to life.

Europe’s First Live Agentic Commerce Payment and Advanced Security

The Juniper Research report highlights Mastercard’s early market innovations and the scale of its global acceptance infrastructure as key factors behind its leadership in this space. The report specifically notes that while many players in the industry are still in the testing phase, the first end-to-end live payment in Europe made by an AI assistant was successfully completed using Mastercard’s infrastructure. It also states that the Mastercard Agent Pay network, first launched in the United States, had reached global scale by early 2026.

Security and control, among consumers’ biggest concerns as autonomous commerce develops, are addressed through Mastercard Agentic Tokens. Described in the report as an innovative milestone, this technology encrypts the user’s identity, the spending limits assigned to the AI assistant, and the user’s purchase intent. By enabling transactions to take place in a transparent and secure environment, this infrastructure helps raise consumer protection to the highest level.

Partnerships with Technology Leaders and the Agent Suite Era

As Mastercard helps define the standards of Agentic Commerce, it is also expanding the ecosystem through strong collaborations with leading technology companies. By supporting the Universal Commerce Protocol and integrating with Microsoft Copilot Checkout, Mastercard enables users to shop instantly without leaving the chat interface. Through its collaboration with PayPal, consumers can securely authorize AI assistants to spend using their Mastercard credentials via digital wallets.

Another important development highlighted in the report is Agent Suite, announced in the first quarter of 2026. The platform enables retailers and banks to create customized AI shopping assistants without the need for complex coding processes.

Being named the world’s leading company in this visionary field by Juniper Research is a clear indication of Mastercard’s strength in shaping the future of the digital economy. As Azerbaijan continues to advance its digital transformation agenda, Mastercard’s global expertise and technologies can support the development of more intelligent, secure and seamless payment experiences for consumers, businesses and the wider ecosystem.
