Namibia Aligns CRAN’s New Board with National Digital Transformation Agenda

During the meeting, CRAN Board Chairperson Elwis Nashilongo reaffirmed the board’s commitment to transforming the communications regulator into a smart, digitally enabled institution. The board said it will prioritise innovation, improve operational efficiency and support Namibia’s digital transformation agenda.
Theofelus urged the board to provide strategic leadership as Namibia navigates an increasingly complex digital landscape. She stressed that regulators must remain agile by adopting regulatory approaches that encourage innovation while safeguarding the public interest.
The Minister also announced that the Ministry is working to finalise the Cybercrime Bill and the Data Protection Bill, describing both pieces of legislation as critical to strengthening Namibia’s digital governance framework. The proposed laws are expected to provide stronger mechanisms to combat cybercrime, address digital violence and protect citizens’ personal information and digital rights.
The meeting concluded with a renewed commitment by both the Ministry and CRAN’s Board to building a secure, innovative and inclusive digital ecosystem that supports Namibia’s socio-economic development.
