Discussions focused on a digital loan system being developed by SMART Zambia Institute to enable civil servants to access loans more conveniently and securely.

The Association of Microfinance Institutions of Zambia (AMIZ)  has engaged SMART Zambia Institute (SZI)  to explore digital solutions that could improve access to secure and efficient financial services for civil servants.

The engagement took place on August 5, 2026, when an AMIZ delegation led by its President and CEO of Biu Capital, Jack Chinyama, paid a courtesy visit to SZI National Coordinator Percy Chinyama. The delegation also included Micro Finance Zambia Vice President and CEO James Chona and Executive Director Webby Mate.

Discussions focused on a digital loan system being developed by SMART Zambia Institute to enable civil servants to access loans more conveniently and securely. The proposed platform is designed to simplify loan applications while strengthening verification processes to prevent fraudulent transactions, including cases where individuals could attempt to obtain loans on behalf of other people.

During the meeting, the AMIZ delegation was briefed on the digital solution and discussed possible areas of collaboration with SZI to support the delivery of secure and accessible financial services to public service workers.

The engagement forms part of SMART Zambia Institute’s broader efforts to use digital technology to address service delivery challenges and advance Zambia’s digital transformation agenda. The proposed loan platform is expected to improve efficiency, security and user experience in accessing financial services for civil servants.
