Presenting the Institute’s performance, UICT Principal Dr. Fredrick E. Kitoogo highlighted its growing contribution to Uganda’s digital transformation agenda through digital-skills training, innovation, partnerships and institutional development.

The Uganda Institute of Information and Communications Technology (UICT)  has reported significant progress in digital skilling, innovation and Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) transformation during the 2026 Ministry of ICT and National Guidance ICT Sector Annual Performance Review Retreat.

Presenting the Institute’s performance, UICT Principal Dr. Fredrick E. Kitoogo highlighted its growing contribution to Uganda’s digital transformation agenda through digital-skills training, innovation, partnerships and institutional development.

During the 2025/26 financial year, UICT trained 36,332 citizens, 1,932 government officers, 1,207 educators and TVET instructors, and 8,977 participants in immersive and emerging technology skills.

The Institute also delivered 65 certified trainers and developed 21 augmented, virtual and extended reality (AVR/XR) courses and modules, further expanding its capacity to deliver specialised digital-skills training.

Beyond training, UICT is strengthening applied research, innovation and commercialisation, with the National ICT Innovation Hub supporting innovators in developing ideas into solutions with economic and social impact.

For the 2026/27 financial year, UICT said it will prioritise quality ICT and digital-skills education, applied research and innovation, infrastructure modernisation, commercialisation of innovation, institutional excellence and full TVET compliance.

The Institute also plans to contribute to Uganda’s National Development Plan IV through expanded digital-skills training, stronger student skilling and certification, applied research and innovation, a stronger innovation ecosystem, and improved institutional management and governance.
