Liberia Telecoms Authority to Automate Licensing and Renewal Process

Under the planned system, individuals, businesses and other entities will be able to submit applications for telecommunications licences and renewals through a digital platform, eliminating the need for applicants outside Monrovia to travel to the capital for every licensing process.

The Liberia Telecommunications Authority (LTA)  is moving to automate telecommunications licensing and renewal, in a move aimed at reducing the time, cost and physical effort required for applicants across the country.

Under the planned system, individuals, businesses and other entities will be able to submit applications for telecommunications licences and renewals through a digital platform, eliminating the need for applicants outside Monrovia to travel to the capital for every licensing process.

According to the LTA, the automated platform is being developed to replace existing paper-based procedures with a more streamlined and modern licensing process. The Authority’s Licensing and Regulations Department has been working to refine the system, while staff are being trained on how to manage applications and related processes through the new platform.

The digital system is expected to deliver significant time and cost savings for applicants while improving the efficiency of the Authority’s licensing operations.

However, the LTA said it will maintain physical access for applicants who need assistance or prefer to engage with the Authority directly. The dual approach is intended to ensure that the shift to digital licensing does not exclude people with limited access to online services or those who require additional guidance.

The initiative represents a further step in the LTA’s efforts to modernise telecommunications regulation and make licensing services more accessible nationwide.
