ZARU Adds Absa to South African Banking Network to Strengthen Stablecoin Infrastructure

September 8, 2026

The addition of a second major banking partner introduces structural redundancy, designed as a core institutional safeguard rather than a fix for past vulnerabilities.

ZARU,  the South African rand-backed stablecoin, has expanded its banking ecosystem by onboarding Absa,  one of South Africa’s largest and most established banking groups. Under this partnership, Absa joins the network connecting ZARU to the local banking infrastructure, strengthening the channel that bridges the physical rand to the blockchain.

The addition of a second major banking partner introduces structural redundancy, designed as a core institutional safeguard rather than a fix for past vulnerabilities. By leveraging Absa’s scale, national coverage, and settlement capacity, the ZARU ecosystem increases its total volume capacity and operational resilience.

This infrastructure enhancement is tailored to meet the standards required by institutional players before committing significant capital. Despite the expanded banking framework behind the scenes, user operations remain unchanged; purchasing, holding, and using ZARU will follow existing procedures, as Absa’s integration complements rather than replaces the current network setup.
