The discussions also covered STEM education, with Kenya looking to draw lessons from Armenia’s STEM programmes while sharing experiences from its own education reforms.

Kenya and Armenia are exploring opportunities to strengthen bilateral cooperation in digital technologies, education, ICT, trade and investment following a meeting between officials from both countries.

John Kipchumba Tanui, Principal Secretary in Kenya’s State Department of ICT and Digital Economy, hosted Armenia’s Ambassador to Kenya, Sahak Sargsyan, for discussions on expanding collaboration between the two countries in the digital economy.

The engagement identified artificial intelligence and cloud computing as potential areas of cooperation. Both countries are looking at opportunities for capacity building, policy exchange and joint innovation initiatives as they develop their technology ecosystems.

Youth digital skills development was another area highlighted during the discussions. Tanui pointed to similarities between Armenia’s TUMO Centres for Creative Technologies and Kenya’s Jitume Digital Hubs, which provide young people with access to technology-focused learning and skills development.

The two countries could explore linking the programmes through shared curricula, mentorship approaches and the exchange of implementation practices.

The discussions also covered STEM education, with Kenya looking to draw lessons from Armenia’s STEM programmes while sharing experiences from its own education reforms. The proposed peer-learning approach could support improvements in both countries’ STEM education systems.

Tanui said digital transformation increasingly requires international cooperation, with countries able to accelerate progress by sharing expertise, adapting successful approaches to local conditions and developing joint initiatives.

The two sides are expected to explore concrete programmes in the coming months, building on the areas identified during the engagement.
