Ghana’s NCA Hosts Gambia Regulator for Four-Day Communications Benchmarking Visit
The visit, which runs from Tuesday, September 22 to Friday, September 25, 2026, is being held at the NCA Tower. It is aimed at facilitating the exchange of regulatory experiences and best practices while identifying potential areas of cooperation between the two communications regulators.
The National Communications Authority (NCA) of Ghana is hosting a delegation from The Gambia’s Public Utilities Regulatory Authority (PURA) for a four-day benchmarking visit focused on broadcasting, regulatory operations and institutional cooperation.
The visit, which runs from Tuesday, September 22 to Friday, September 25, 2026, is being held at the NCA Tower. It is aimed at facilitating the exchange of regulatory experiences and best practices while identifying potential areas of cooperation between the two communications regulators.
The delegation was welcomed by Etta Mosore, Deputy Director-General in charge of Managerial Operations at the NCA, and Suleman Salifu, Deputy Director-General in charge of Technical Operations. Both officials said the NCA was ready to share its regulatory experience with PURA while also learning from the Gambian regulator.
Mosore highlighted the NCA’s work in consumer affairs and protection, ongoing reviews of the sector’s legal and regulatory framework, and technical developments aimed at strengthening Quality of Service (QoS) Key Performance Indicators. She also outlined the role of the NCA’s Dispute Resolution Committee in providing a structured mechanism for resolving disputes within Ghana’s communications industry.
Salifu noted that the visit, which is PURA’s second to the NCA this year, demonstrates the relationship between the two institutions and the NCA’s commitment to knowledge sharing and collaboration.
Speaking on behalf of PURA Director-General Jamilatou Saidy, the authority’s Director of Consumer Affairs and head of delegation expressed appreciation to the NCA for hosting the visit. She identified institutional and regulatory governance as a key area of interest for PURA, saying direct engagement with the NCA and examination of its institutional arrangements would provide valuable insights for the Gambian regulator.
During the benchmarking exercise, the PURA delegation will examine the NCA’s regulatory governance framework, regulatory policy implementation mechanisms, Standard Operating Procedures and approaches to service delivery and consumer protection.
The engagement will also cover governance structures, regulatory decision-making, governance reporting, regulatory policy development, and monitoring and evaluation. The NCA said the visit is expected to strengthen regulatory knowledge sharing between Ghana and The Gambia and identify opportunities for further cooperation.
