Qatar National Library Launches Accessible Digital Kiosk for Inclusive Heritage Access
Through this kiosk, over 100 selected items from the Heritage Library that may otherwise be difficult for some visitors to access are brought to life through multidimensional, inclusive formats, including Braille interfaces and highly detailed tactile representations.
In an initiative that bridges cultural heritage and innovative technology, Qatar National Library has launched the Accessible Digital Kiosk, providing people with disabilities a more inclusive experience of the Library’s heritage collections.
Funded by the Qatar Research, Development, and Innovation(QRDI) Council, this first and only device of its kind was developed and launched in collaboration with Mada Assistive Technology Center to transform how historical archives are experienced.
Through this kiosk, over 100 selected items from the Heritage Library that may otherwise be difficult for some visitors to access are brought to life through multidimensional, inclusive formats, including Braille interfaces and highly detailed tactile representations.
To ensure greater accessibility for people who are hearing impaired, the kiosk integrates advanced sign-language content featuring “Bo-Hamad,” Mada’s specialized Qatari Sign Language avatar. By combining these assistive technologies, the kiosk delivers a holistic experience of the Library’s historical collections.
