Wio Bank Becomes UAE’s First Issuer to Auto-Enable Mastercard Click to Pay
Click to Pay is a global online checkout solution for card transactions that enables consumers to complete purchases without manually entering card details, delivering a passwordless experience powered by Mastercard's network tokenization and EMVCo® authentication standards.
Wio Bank has become the first issuer in the UAE to introduce auto-enablement of Click to Pay for its cards with Mastercard, providing online shoppers with seamless payment options. Click to Pay is a global online checkout solution for card transactions that enables consumers to complete purchases without manually entering card details, delivering a passwordless experience powered by Mastercard’s network tokenization and EMVCo® authentication standards.
Designed to work across devices, browsers and a growing network of merchants, Click to Pay is strengthened by the Mastercard Payment Passkey service, which uses device-based biometrics – such as fingerprint or facial recognition – combined with tokenization to authenticate transactions securely. By eliminating passwords and one-time passcodes, passkeys enhance security and speed, ensuring no sensitive payment data is shared with third parties and rendering intercepted information useless to fraudsters.
“Wio Bank is committed to bringing efficiency into day-to-day transactions. With its innovative solutions powered by advanced technology, Mastercard enables us to offer streamlined, user-friendly payment journeys. The auto-enablement of Click to Pay will allow our customers to complete their e-commerce purchases with a single click and with added peace of mind.”
– Prateek Vahie, Chief Commercial Officer, Wio Bank
“At Mastercard, we are working to transform online checkout into a faster, more secure and more intuitive experience for consumers. Building on our shared dedication to blazing new trails in the UAE’s payments industry, our collaboration with Wio will contribute to accelerating the adoption of online transactions and driving the growth of the country’s thriving digital economy.”
– Gina Petersen-Skyrme, Senior Vice President and Country Manager, UAE & Oman, Mastercard
Tokenization replaces the actual card number with a unique digital token where sensitive card details are not exposed. According to Mastercard’s recent report with Checkout.com, token adoption with merchants in MENA grew by 345%. Together with key stakeholders, Mastercard is working towards a fully tokenized and authenticated e-commerce ecosystem by 2030.
