The initiative was announced during WICE’s 30th Annual National Conference in Bichi, Kano State, held under the theme, “Dual Mandate: Global Impact; Reimagining Teacher Education for Sustainable Development.”

The National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA)  has provided HP OmniBook laptops and digital skills training to the National Association of Women in Colleges of Education (WICE)  to strengthen its digital capacity and improve operational efficiency.

The initiative was announced during WICE’s 30th Annual National Conference in Bichi, Kano State, held under the theme, “Dual Mandate: Global Impact; Reimagining Teacher Education for Sustainable Development.”

NITDA Director General Kashifu Inuwa, represented by Christiana Simon of the agency’s Digital Development Services Department, said the laptops would support documentation, information management, communication, virtual engagements and collaboration among WICE members.

The agency has also enrolled 1,135 WICE members in digital literacy courses through the NITDA-Cisco Networking Academy platform. The online learning programme is complemented by an in-person masterclass covering productivity tools, cybersecurity and generative artificial intelligence (AI).

The training aims to equip women educators with practical digital skills to improve workplace productivity, safeguard digital information and apply emerging technologies responsibly in teaching, research and administration.

NITDA reaffirmed its commitment to empowering women educators with essential digital competencies and promoting technology-driven solutions to enhance teaching, research and administrative processes across educational institutions.
