The additional laptops will support the establishment of 40 new learning centres across KNUST, increasing the number from 10 to 50. The university initially received 500 laptops to equip the first 10 centres.

Ghana’s Ministry of Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations  plans to provide an additional 2,000 laptops to Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST)  to expand digital skills training under the One Million Coders Programme (OMCP).

The announcement was made by the Minister for Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations, Samuel Nartey George, during a working visit to the university as part of his tour of the Ashanti Region to assess the programme’s implementation and identify opportunities for expansion.

The additional laptops will support the establishment of 40 new learning centres across KNUST, increasing the number from 10 to 50. The university initially received 500 laptops to equip the first 10 centres.

During the visit, the Minister toured learning centres on campus and interacted with students about their experiences with the programme, encouraging greater participation. The expansion is expected to make digital skills training more accessible to students and other prospective learners within the university community.

The Ministry is also exploring opportunities to extend the programme to other tertiary institutions in the Ashanti Region, including Kumasi Technical University.

The expansion forms part of the Ministry’s broader efforts to strengthen digital skills development and widen access to technology-enabled learning. Through the One Million Coders Programme, the government aims to equip more Ghanaians with digital skills that support innovation, improve employability and enable participation in the country’s growing digital economy.
