Zimbabwe ICT Ministry Strengthens Risk Controls to Support Digital Transformation
During the workshop, Mavetera emphasised the need to balance the expansion of digital connectivity and services with stronger safeguards against operational risks, fraud and corruption.
Zimbabwe’s Ministry of Information and Communication Technology, Postal and Courier Services is strengthening its enterprise risk management practices to protect public funds, safeguard citizens’ information and support the country’s digital transformation agenda.
The initiative was outlined by ICT Minister Tatenda Mavetera, who opened an Enterprise Risk Management workshop for ministry executives in Harare.
During the workshop, Mavetera emphasised the need to balance the expansion of digital connectivity and services with stronger safeguards against operational risks, fraud and corruption.
As part of the agreed measures, ministry departments are required to document operational risks and submit validated risk registers by November 6. The departments will also strengthen internal controls to prevent fraud and corruption and begin incorporating risk assessments into all new major project proposals.
The measures are intended to improve accountability and strengthen the management of risks associated with the ministry’s operations and digital initiatives.
Mavetera also linked effective risk management to Zimbabwe’s ambition of attaining upper-middle-income status by 2030, stressing the importance of a secure and reliable ICT sector in supporting the country’s broader development objectives.
The initiative forms part of efforts to ensure that Zimbabwe’s digital transformation is secure, reliable and responsive to citizens’ needs.
